Projects
The COWRIE Initiative is dedicated to empowering Black communities through innovative, culturally-tailored financial literacy programs and resources. One of our flagship programs, BankBlackUSA, operates as a cooperative under the corporate umbrella of COWRIE. Founded by a diverse group of Black students, advocates, and professionals, BankBlackUSA is committed to developing a robust network of resources that enhance the financial literacy and wealth accrual of the Black community.
BankBlackUSA actively monitors the integrity, demonstrated commitment, and performance of financial institutions serving our communities, ensuring that they genuinely address the unique financial needs of Black individuals and families. Our program strives to hold these institutions accountable while fostering a positive relationship between them and the communities they serve.
In addition to our monitoring efforts, BankBlackUSA pledges to provide and create essential tools for financial growth, stability, and agility within the Black community. Through culturally-relevant educational materials, workshops, and mentorship opportunities, we empower individuals and families to make informed financial decisions that drive generational wealth and close the racial wealth gap.
By integrating BankBlackUSA into the broader programming landscape of the COWRIE Initiative, we can holistically address the financial challenges faced by Black communities, ensuring a brighter and more equitable future for all.
